Nonakado Stone Group

A fascinating stone group from Japan, late Jomon - Oyu Site - Towada. It seemingly represents a sundial, you can see three of the 'quarter' stones, and there is apparently nothing like it on the Continent, and the information states, that it could come from as far a field as Siberia to the Mongolian Steppes, where many types of stone arrangements are found.

  1. Amazing. I have never seen anything like this before. I know that the mummified? bodies of people in Celtic plaids and with light hair were found in China, so why should we doubt that the Mongolians - or at any rate, their ideas, shouldn't have reached Japan?

  2. Hi BB. The Mongolians, Koreans, Tibetans and Japanese belong to the same ethnic group - and their languages also belong to the same linguistic family (unlike Chinese which is not related). I have a feeling that in the distant past the Inuit may also have belonged to that same ethnic group as there is at least one word (the word for elder brother) which is very similar in both Inuit and Japanese. I'm afraid I don't know much more than that but if you ever see traditional Mongolian wresting on TV you might notice a strong similarity with Japanese Sumo wrestling.
