It was a wonderful day and we had a great crowd for our protest - clever signs, music, people in costumes - Abraham Lincoln, the Statue of Liberty, 2 sharks, 2 dinosaurs, 1 chicken...! There were so many cars driving by and beeping their support for us. It felt so good to be surrounded by people who think like me!
I see no coverage for an anti-Trump event in London, so I wonder if there was one. Last "No Kings" day there was, outside the embassy, though I don't think they called it "No Kings" so as not to offend Charles. :)
Anyway I'm glad to see so many people turn out all over the USA.
Yes Steve we have a problem with the no king banner, as we happen to be fond of our royal family. And not forgetting we made rules that put royalty in its place. I think there is enough to protest about in this country without taking on America's woe.
It was just such a great day! Did you see the White House response? An AI generated video of trump wearing a crown, dropping excrement on the protesters. Such a disgusting human being.
Well at least the White House did not put the military on the street, though I think there would have been a rebellion from them as well. Well done those millions that took to the streets.
The problem isn't the powers/limits of the executive as much as it is Congress ceding greater-and-greater legislative competence to the executive. That's much more dangerous. But doesn't have a catchy slogan as "No King". Although Trump has been abusing the executive orders/power to unprecedented extent (and stands apart), the fact is that the imperial presidency has been going on with Bush, more so with Obama, then Biden, and now Trump. There needs to be discussion about congress reigning in presidential power.
Hi Liam, you can argue a point to the finest degree as you often do. But what is happening in America is unprecedented. History is making a date on the timeline of how a stupid man took control of the governance of his country, along with fellow misfits and family. It is his version of dictatorship that yesterday's 12 million people who took to the streets are totally shocked by the wickedness of the tyrannical abuse he brings to his country. 'Imperial Presidency' has it really been stewing on the back burner of ambitious men. Maybe, but when you have a leader he governs in the name of the people not himself.

ReplyDelete12 million or so think like you Ellen, it was a very good turnout. But the momentum has to be kept up.

I don't see that at all.
