Shewbread Quaker Burial Ground

The Shewbread Quaker Burial Ground is one of the oldest graveyards in Todmorden, established in 1690. It is located on Shoebroad Lane, a steep, rocky track above Todmorden. The burial ground is maintained by the Quaker community and is used for burials. The ground features a Grade II listed archway and has seen over 200 burials since its establishment. It is a significant historical site reflecting the Quaker presence in the area and their commitment to burial practices. 1688

Well I have to start somewhere.  I noticed this in drafts.  Andrew had been out walking last week and had gone up Shoebroad Lane past the Unitarian Church's graveyard, up a steep slope and come across the Quaker's cemetery.  There is a little video below.  Shewbread is the biblical12 loaves set upon a golden table in a Jewish Temple for the priests to eat through the week.  Notice how the name has turned into Shoebroad.

Dissenters in the 17th Century were quite a feature of England, Catholics were persecuted and the religion we hold today Protestantism had become the flavour of the day.  On actually looking up Dissenters and you find there is an enormous amount of smaller religious sects starting up.  Sometimes different interpretations of the bible, or baptismal ways.  They represent cult ideas I suppose of how religion should be worshipped in their representations.
