| Theodore Rousseau 1812-1867. Romantic Landscapes |
Someone I stumbled on today. Theodore Rousseau somewhat reminded me of another English artist, Heywood Sumner who painted the New Forest in the colours, not just of the vegetation but the geological colouring that is part of the whole. Capturing an essence is I suppose how you would call it. I love paintings of trees, here we have lichen, moss and rock as well, a French landscape presumably. I often find that in landscape paintings figures are of a poor quality but it doesn't really worry me trees speak their own magic.
What else? I have been exploring the young political writers of today, and how well they speak. Though Ash Sarker left me giggling. When asked about Tony Blair and the Peace Plan, she said, "Well I suppose Satan was unavailable at the time" tis the wicked tongue that wins the day for me. Owen Jones, Guardian journalist, in his slightly excitable way also is very quick with his words and his damnation of whatever is happening in the news.
I have been worrying over the fact that the BBC in its news hardly covers what I read of the world happenings on YouTube. At first you jump to the conclusion that things are being kept from you. But Andrew said, probably not, it is not a downward spiral from the top BBC echelon but upwards from the journalists who are scared of the consequence of being scrutinised and sued. @47 was already to take the BBC on.
Thanks for mentioning those political writers. So many of our newspapers and TV news are being taken over by rich men that are censoring our news and programs. I read independent news sources but it's good to know what other countries are saying too. The details on those paintings are really amazing!
ReplyDeleteI think the advent of anyone being able to write in the public forum, is actually quite good Ellen. The age group up to 35 years many have very different ideas and there is a lot of messy protest (all to the good of course, especially in America). But this assault on Democracy by right wingers may be trumped in the end;)
DeleteI try to read from several sources to get a more balanced view. I'm not always successful.

DeleteIt seems to me Janice that Canada through Mark Carney is getting the better of the American government. The whole world is rearranging itself to work without America. Yet we hear nothing about it in our news. Still I am a Guardian reader with all that entails and more interested in the Greens at the moment.
It is certainly dangerous times when the press is silenced. What makes the times different is that secret news papers were passed about to keep people informed. It is different now. Everybody has a phone. Everybody bears witness. We have access to news from all over the world. There is almost too much information. It requires fact checking and cross referencing, but if one is committed to ferreting out the truth, it is there.
ReplyDeleteFunnily enough Debby, I started listening to Rachel Maddow, a political guru in America and I wasn't quite sure she was real, given the onslaught of AI, she was so 'in yer face' But she is real and her output very good, But as you say no one can dodge the phone camera today, and it might just be the means of saving the day.
