The Greens WIN

Zack Polanski and Hannah Spencer, new parliamentary MP

If you support the Green Party than today is a breakthrough to rejoice in, the hard work the volunteers put in without the benefit of  billionaire backers paid its way.  The nasty headline I read on the Telegraph last night didn't reach its goal.  I mean who reads the wretched paper anyway.  Farage is left mumbling in his lost sea of racist rhetoric.

The Green Party has just won a significant political seat in Gorton and Denton' winning by a clear majority over the Reform party and of course the Labour party.

Hannah is young, vibrant, a plumber by trade, and a woman, let us hope she survives.  As for Zack, indomitable, hardworking, always in the news, he needs a rest.

How did I hear the news? 5.30 am this morning as Andrew came rushing down the stairs - shouting they've won!

Let the young go forward, it may not be how I want it, or you, but we definitely need some radical change in our politics that doesn't include Farage.

14,980 votes Greens,  Reform UK 10,578, Labour 9364.  Turnout 47.6%

  1. That is very pleasing to learn. I see the seats are in Manchester, a place I would have thought was mostly rusted on Labour voters, with some recent converts to Farage from Labour. Very good inideed.

    1. I don't know why? Slow news day this Saturday? The by-election result is being reported quite widely here, and I can't ever remember an interest in English by-elections happening here before.

    2. Politics are changing Andrew. What happened in this by-election upset the Labour party. Starmer made a wrong decision in not allowing Andy Burnham, the mayor of Manchester to run for the job of being an MP. The right wing slant of the London centric Labour party (telling a Northern town what to do for goodness sake ;) ;) lost the plot.
The votes of the Reform Party were good and that is frightening because frankly they haven't got two brain cells to rub together between themselves. The 'family voting' question is about the Muslims I presume. Whereas some people are frightened by immigration, many people 'Up North' live with their neighbours quite happily. The Greens won on the first past the post syndrome, the people have spoken, they punished the Labour party, and look at the voting figures on Conservative and Liberal they were just cast out.
Interesting times. But Hannah deserved her win.

  2. We certainly need some fresh blood and intelligent input to our politics.

    1. I think the word is intelligent input Janice. Hannah Spencer is as fresh as a daisy at the moment I hope she is not battered too much in Parliament. It seems Polanski will stand by her side though.

  3. We need to clear out a lot of the old white guys in office over here. Starting at the top!

    1. I don't understand why it has not yet happened Ellen. He is definitely running amok in power and even his cronies must be worried.
