14th December 2024. (passed the 13th on a Friday with no problem)

I have just written and sorted out photos for a very nostalgic blog but decided not to publish it till the 18th.  Otherwise I burnt the bread yesterday, you could use the loaf as a brick to build a house it is so strong.

My daughter says the problem is you can never smell burning from an Aga the oven is too sealed up. Apart from cooking disasters life continues apace.  Lillie is back, late last night and will probably go to work today at her old workplace.

Is it really like this in America and do I believe what I read, the answer to the second question is no of course.  But it is something to brood over.   "Know what you stand for and what you think is good"

My son has been blessed with an Amazon gift card from me which was delivered a day after by the Amazon work slave.  I know all this because of the half dozen emails Amazon posts.  Have you not noticed how the drivers fidget on the front doorstep trying to get away quick after the photo call to keep up to speed on their round?  Please do not let the Post Office Mail (is it called Royal Mail anymore?) be sold off to some money drunk happy billionaire to buy it and then force another bunch of people into serfdom.

And, if we have to gossip, I am a bit sick of Prince Andrew and his foolishness in his friendships with Chinese spies, or business people, take your pick.  Just put him in The Tower and then all of that unruly fuss about which royal house he wants will be solved.

During my reading of 'The Ruralists' I came across a good rabbit hole to go down.  It is by Ralph Steadman, his drawings always scares me.  Roald Dahl once wrote a book on the case of the ownership of the Mildenhall Roman Treasure and you can find some of Steadman's illustrations in this blog.

Rabbit Hole by Ralph Steadman

A good Christmas Card down below?  I like the scruffiness of his studio.  Why do not artists get rich when they are alive? But it is rich business men who make the profit on old paintings when they are sold.  Funny that!

Three Kings

  1. Andrew and Harry, two royals who have gone way wrong but the rest (well Margaret too perhaps) have kept their noses reasonably clean. A few fines for Princess Ann for speeding and Prince Phillip's driving not being great at an old age. Otherwise??? Actually, the more I think about it, the more misdeeds I remember. Forget all of the above.

The Rabbit Hole is excellent and there is a lot to see in The Three Kings.

  2. Funnily enough, the only two royals (other than the late Queen) that I really had any time for are Anne - much more pragmatic and down to earth that any of her brothers, and with a first class work ethic, and Phillip - no sufferer of fools and not afraid to speak his mind, and with a far more real-world point of view that our current tree hugger nutcase king and his woke son and heir.
As for.Harry, he should have stayed in the Army where he would have been kept out of the way and out of the clutches of a Z-list power crazed offence taker actress. And Andrew, well the less said about Air Miles Andy the better.

    1. Obviously you are an anti- monarchist Will but they are a close family except that one or two have been pushed to the side. £510 million it costs the tax-payers each year and they are all rich on their own account, why they need money from the state is a question that needs to be asked.

    2. Actually, I'm glad that we have a stable monarchy in the UK. When I see the problems that other countries have with their heads of state I think that we could certainly do a lot worse!

  3. Had the same problem with a Rayburn oven - which is how some yorkshire puddings once turned into small cannon balls!

  4. I love all of the tiny details in that Three Kings picture. I've been avoiding ordering from Amazon and trying to support companies and businesses that are in my area. It is scary to think about what Frump will do to my country but I'm hoping better minds will prevail.

    1. There is only so far he can go Ellen, not everyone is going to play along with him.

  5. I placed only two orders with Amazon this season, and I am pleased by that. I actually thought that I'd get away with ordering nothing, but...

I think that it is interesting that 'it was all about groceries' when tRUMP was campaigning. Now he has won, and his cabinet is filled with billionaires. One thing: tRUMP has decreed that billionaire owners of businesses are exempt from all environmental laws. Elon Musk is dancing with glee. Another thing? He is explaining already that bringing down grocery prices "is hard" and that he might not be able to do it. (I suppose that working on that would cause problems for the billionaires who are profiting from that.)

Still, you have people who think that he's just wonderful. Of course they are right. They cannot be wrong. They know more than the rest of us. They know more than the experts. They know.

Sorry about the bread though. That's a tragic loss.

  6. Well I made another loaf Debby. As for the golden haired one. He may have made a mistake walking past the grocery issue. People need food, normally three times a day. Can you imagine with a cabinet of billionaires how people will eventually feel? I mean, our conservative cabinet had plenty of rich people in it and look what happened to them.

  7. I like Ralph steadman’s drawings.
I am sorry not to have left a comment for so long or posted on my blog. I have been very ill and only now feel more able to use a keyboard - albeit on a phone! But I have been reading and it helps to see me through. Today I am posting similar comments on many favourite blogs I have read. From a hospital in France…

  8. Hi, I am not sure who I am speaking to, but at a guess it is Mark from Views from the Bike Shed. I am sorry to hear you are in hospital in France and hope whatever it is you have will get better soon. I am listening to Snow on Snow on Radio 3 at the moment, and believe it or not we are to have snow on Christmas day. Best wishes. X
