3rd February 2025

Another photo from Maldon, I think it is a sea holly, a maritime plant, that doesn't love water but a dry hot place near a wall. Same as the Californian poppies that dance at its roots.

To record the day:  Which is noteworthy in the fact that Andrew will be moving in.  His workplace will be in the large bedroom next door.  Most of his stuff is going into storage but there will be furniture coming soon.  Andrew is a walker, so must walk a couple of times a day, so will do all the small shopping when needed ;) We all have our cooking days, I have three in the week.

--------------------------------------

Apart from that, I listened to a tentative morning 'Dawn's Chorus' when a blackbird sung its heart out, presumably because of the slightly warmer temperature.  So Hardy's frail winter's blackbird is going but as we know, even though the light returns the winter cold can last well into April, with even snow in May.

  1. I was disappointed to read that we might get 3-4" of snow on Wednesday. I hope the forecast is wrong.
I love those photos of the rivers. I enjoy walking along water.

  3. I really am enjoying these photographs. We've got an ice storm coming. Spring has always followed winter for all of my 67 years, but you know, this year, I find myself not quite as sure of that fact as usual.

  4. As you all like the river photos. It is a slow sluggish river because Essex is flat but also a very tranquil place once you leave Paper Mill Lock with its cafe for tea and cakes. Most people are not prepared to walk a long way and once you follow the river path there are no roads to escape on. The time to go is when the path is lined with honey smelling cow parsley - it is gorgeous.

  5. The flooding at the mill looks serene but it must be dangerous for the locals. Especially if Essex is flat.

    1. not really Hels. It is different in the more rugged parts of the country, when gentle 2 to 3 feet deep rivers turn into 16 feet deep rushing water, houses get flooded pretty quickly.

  6. How refreshing to see photos of green grass, trees in full leaf. This is the time of year when the landscape looks tired and drab.

    1. Yes Sharon one's visual imagery needs greenness, sun and and warmth at this time of the year.
