3rd June 2025 - Heartjumping

I have been following a knitting video on Youtube - it.is.a.sarah.  She is so upbeat and has this wonderful saying 'heartjumping moment' A moment of happiness, a moment of recognition? I don't know but she is from the Nederlands and is so enthusiastic about her knitting that it is a pleasure to watch her.

So do you wake up on a high in the morning? looking forward to a new day.  Sometimes the miseries of the world overtake our natural optimism, we fall into the trap of the blackness that is happening around us.  Wars continue unceasingly, as does cruelty.  Yet we are helpless to do anything.  We must recognise the blackness around but also take pleasure in the good.  So on a high this morning I am listening to George Ezra and Pretty Shining People.

Wandering over the blogs, Steve Reed's Shadow and Light brings forth a small insect inspecting a most beautiful rose and Arctic Fox has been studying fungi, which makes me look up the fungi foraging explorations Paul and I used to go on in Essex, finding the weird and wonderful and once going round with an expert and finding a favourite of mine the Amethyst Deceiver, a pale lavender but turning bluer as time goes on.  A couple of blogs on the subject.

But as Gary Snyder says........

Don't ever eat Boletus
If the tube-mouths they are red
Stay away from the amanitas
Or brother you are dead.

A far-flung friendly clan,
For food, for fun, for poison
They are a help to man.

  1. I sometimes wake up with all sorts of ideas of what I will get done that day but often end up wasting time and not getting those ideas completed!

  4. You need to study them for years before you can be absolutely sure they are the right ones for eating. I did bring some puffballs home once, they have to be young to be edible, but didn't eat them, the inside looked a bit funny.

  5. If you are interested in fungi, have a look at these photos. They are beautiful but maybe you have them there too. https://hisdailyphoto.blogspot.com/2025/05/pixie-parasol-in-lake-sanitarium-mount.html

  7. What a nice knitty video. I love seeing other people’s projects, feel inspired to tackle something more adventurous but just keep knitting socks.

    1. She is so cheerful that it becomes a pleasure to listen to. I see she talks about socks at the very beginning but her jumpers are exquisitely knit.

  8. Even in my younger years I was never one to wake up full of vitality and bounce. Now, I wake up, take note of the parts of me that ache/hurt [increasingly] and then out of bed and get on with the day. If I occasionally over sleep the cats pester for my attention, purring in my ear, prodding. There are always personal/family concerns, and the sad state of the world; pondering doesn't mend any of it, so better to be out of bed, stepping outside to view the day.

  9. Well I must admit I get up with a certain amount of optimism Sharon but a mug of tea will fully wake me up. Also Mollie my cat, wakes me up about three times in the night, the last time being 5 o clock am so I have to feed her.
