I haven't got much to say, but it is raining outside and it reminded me of the temple, the rain is falling very gently though. The travellers are back. The unloading of Italian food has been undertaken and also a large old wooden pestle, the mortar was too heavy and expensive to bring back. What else, another Mary and Jesus to add to the collection. My daughter collects but she is not religious. But occasionally, just occasionally she finds paintings or prints of both to hang on the wall.
Collections are funny things, and I am not a collector of anything, maybe books but a lot of those have gone to Oxfam. Once one of Paul's clients had several boxes of religious icons delivered to the studio. They had been in his cousin's basement for thirty years. What was the point? were they collected to go up in value. Needless to say they were dark and unattractive. We all unwrapped them, they were checked and then went back into the boxes again.
What a beautiful temple! Reminds me of my visit to China and all of the lovely ancient buildings we saw.
ReplyDeleteIn the video, I wanted the pretty music to stop for awhile so I could just hear the rain on the roof.
Well in fact it did rain quite a lot yesterday and the roads were getting temporarily flooded. Because, of course, Autumn leaves were blocking the drains Ellen.
DeleteItalian food sounds more fun then religious icons!
ReplyDeleteYes we had a mushroom risotto yesterday, a lot of dried mushrooms came home as well Sue.
DeleteI don't get the point of icons, myself, but because they are 'religious', people get nervous about discarding them. Perhaps they were passed down, and the client was too superstitious to discard them.
ReplyDeleteI think if you store things for enough length of time Debby, they go up in value. I suppose they were like a little shrine you could keep in the home.
DeleteIt’s been a while. Sorry I haven’t been around lately I’ve been busy with some stuff outside the online world. Just wanted to drop by and say hi! I’ll be back soon to read your awesome blog posts. Catch you later.

Greetings from Indonesia
That is very courteous of you Asep. Good wishes.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to be part of the human condition - to encumber ourselves with stuff - be it books, pictures of religious figures, antiques, football programmes, food items, knick-knacks, clothes. We seem to need the comfort that I suppose these collections supply. They become extensions of who we are.
ReplyDeleteAnd not to be too miserable but all that stuff has to be sorted by our dearly beloved on our death. I am not sure possessions are comforting but probably feelings of guilt arise to.
DeleteTemple bells, misty rain - so magical.
ReplyDeleteWe had lots of rain yesterday and more is forecast for today. The rivers and streams need replenishment, so it's not a bad thing.
It is a video I pull up every so often, it looks like a lovely ambience to the place. People worry here about flooding, being at the bottom of a narrow valley the towns flood easily.
