Time for cheerful eating of chocolate eggs.

 A Happy Easter everyone

St. Peter on the Wall altar

I had to think of a theme and my mind rested on perhaps an early Celtic church and then this church in Bradwell (I think it is Bradwell-on-the Sea) a Celtic church taking over a Roman building.  Yes that is how old it is,  Not far away is a Christian community started after the last war in 1946 and the community is called Othona.  This building is of course not very far from the Bradwell Nuclear site.  You can see the  blogs I have written here.

As an atheist, though sometimes I see myself nearer to an agnostic, I have visited many churches from cathedrals to small old churches hardly used and wondered why faith has taken such a strong hold on the human heart and how religion often creates more trouble than it is worth.  See our history this very day!

So Happy eating of Easter eggs, I have a sophisticated Ferrero Rocher one and a good day to everyone.

I forgot....been listening to Paul Kingsnorth - The Experience of Beauty.  A pagan turned Catholic for goodness sake, just like Tolkien and C.S. Lewis who both took up Catholicism. Ah, just thought they both wrote beautiful fantasy that explains it.

  1. Happy Easter. That is quite a building. I've become more atheist as I've become older
and have little time for the hokus pokus fairy tale. Religion does the world no good.

    1. 'Religion does the world no good' So if we got rid of it would we stop having wars? I think the answer would be no. Hope you have a good Easter with your little family Andrew.

  2. No chocolate Easter eggs for me as chocolate tends to give me headaches. I love seeing blooms popping out now even though our weather is chilly today. Happy Easter, Thelma.

    1. And Happy Easter Ellen. It is very cold here. We only have Lucien and Matilda down and of course Lillie who has baked some cornflake cakes with little eggs in them.

  3. I've never understood the drive some people feel toward religion. I'm a science and humanism guy through and through! I sometimes think our society has suffered as it becomes less religious, though. An awful lot of people out there seem to have no moral compass.

    1. The moral compass does swing rather violently at times. I believe that there are definitely more good people in the world than bad. Perhaps it is open minds that define decent behaviour. Trouble is at the moment we have such terrible people in power in many places Steve.

    2. It is just that I see so many people who identify as strongly religious who also seem to have no moral compass, Steve...

  4. The altar is stark and invites reflection. Enjoy your Ferrero Rocher!

  5. I think its simplicity and plainness echoes the austere building it is in Janice.
