And I wrote these words the following day, not exactly over excited by their wedding ... but I did mention it. So much water has passed under the bridge since then. Three attractive children later means the strong line of the Windsors is going forward.
William's brother Harry in disgrace living in America. Is the real reason that he is shunned by the royal family his marriage to Megan, a film star in her own right? She definitely raised the hackles of some of the royal family.
Andrew, William's uncle also in disgrace because of his connection with Epstein. He is, there is no other way of saying it, a rather stupid man. At the moment flailing around at the unkindness of the world.
Charles survives as king, mostly untouched by the scandal of these two. Like Catherine he has been seriously ill. He came to the throne late but is thought well of, that is, if you are a royalist.

Miss Markle is well described by a quote once used about a work colleague - ego the size of a planet, brain the size of a pea!
ReplyDeleteShe was initially welcomed, but people quickly saw through her and her egotistical desire to outshine everyone else, when she was in reality way down the pecking order. And not a particularly good actress, not one of the Hollywood 'A' or 'B' list, just an also-ran in some Canadian nonentity.
Obviously thumbs down for Miss Markle Will. I think Harry must occasionally question his judgement on his choice of wife but they have two children now and a brand name to keep up.

DeleteThe insistence on her children being called Prince and Princess was astonishing. She should have followed the Princess Royal's example and allowed her children to remain untrammeled by titles. She is a manipulative woman married to a rather stupid man.
ReplyDeleteAlso the unfortunate name for the daughter Lilibet. I wonder what the Queen thought about it at the time. Talk about smooching her up. It is all rather sad though, the estrangement of the family.

DeleteAndrew is the epitome of someone raised in privilege, blessed with reasonably good looks as a young man, and thus feeling entitled to whatever he wants -- without question or qualm. In a weird way he's not entirely to blame. As you said, he's just a dimbulb who rode his connections as far as they would take him. Now, time for a reckoning.
ReplyDeleteI think Harry may eventually live to regret some of his youthful decisions regarding love and marriage, but what's done is done.
ReplyDeleteRoyal families have the strange task of being above the hoi-polloi. Royalty expects respect and dignitary, the Queen over her long reign kept to that strict tradition. Andrew just turned into a playboy, there is so much money knocking around in that family anyway ;) and his brain power is so limited, he went off the rails and now he is sulking in the corner. Harry and Megan make good gossip in the news. So one could say it is just entertaining Steve.
