First, something funny. We were sat around the table at teatime, we three, and suddenly Speigel im Speigel came on. This music will reduce anyone's high blood pressure. Me "I want that played at my funeral please" It is so soporific. My other piece is something different it is Jon and Vangelis's I'll Find my way Home. But as we discussed the finer details. My daughter suddenly pointed to the back door, and I, rather crossly said, "No my ashes are not ending up in the dustbin!" but In the fields round Normanby is where I want.
"No" she said, Happy Endings up at the railway station they have a unit in the old buildings there. I bet your minds are leaping ahead as well. But it is a new friendly 'green' place and not where the train takes you to your final destination. Happy Endings have an old Volvo for transportation. Such is life.
Well having watched 'Rebecca at the Railway Cottage and her joy in the 'new' old dresser it reminded me of my earlier years when I was young, widowed with a young child and how I survived.
Well firstly the roof over my head became paid for through insurance. I had a measly widow's pension, also worked at different jobs, though that winding relays job in Devizes didn't end too well. I studied as well at the local college in Chippenham and even rented out the spare bedroom, in other words I survived by the skin of my teeth and my daughter and I, and Kim my Labrador and our two pet rabbits in the garden survived well fed.
I had a lovely neighbour next door with three boys, one of them would babysit when I went to college in the evening and their father would always mend my mini when it broke down. This was the good old days when cars were mendable! And we even had bonfire parties in our miniscule back gardens.
Sadly this neighbour is nearing the end of her life, but having a good time after she actually told everyone about her illness and is now socialising away quite happily. My daughter often goes back to Calne to visit her and for her this final break with Calne will be hard.
