Bores and builders

It has started: The first part of checking the basement for the structural engineer.  Holes have to be made in the basement floor under the large paving stones and also in the ceiling.  But the main work maybe months ahead.  The builder and his young lad came yesterday.  He has long hair and a very cheerful air;) My daughter said he must come from Hebden Bridge.  Yes another generation of hippies has floated down from the original.  There again I might be overthinking, who knows.  Anyway it is the start of a long journey for us.

I mentioned in my latest comments, the Severn Bore, something people round Bristol got excited about.  The great wave sweeps up the river and foolhardy surfers try to fly on its back.  Well I had written about the Bristol Channel in 2007 and here it is once again, with its tales of the Romans crossing it and getting stuck in the middle.

A short video but do turn off the sound!

    1. I expect so Janice but 'Surfers Against Sewage' are agitating against the state of the rivers, the River Wye is in an especially bad state with run off from the chicken farms.

  2. I can't imagine ever having the balance to surf! Hurray for those that tried!
I don't envy you the home rebuilding work. My neighbors across the street actually moved out of their home for the months their home was rebuilt. Turned out lovely but took months to get done. Best of luck to you, Thelma!

  3. It would be interesting to watch the bore happening. I think there is a very large one in Japan.

  4. I think the Severn Bore is one of the three largest to happen. It is a fascinating phenomena Andrew, the pull of the moon horizontally pulls out the Earth and the tidal waves travel all round the world.

  5. That's quite an impressive wave for a river! I never would have guessed it would be large enough to accommodate surfers.

  6. It is a typically English surf wave Steve, not very big like the giant waves you find in other hot countries but the surfers enjoy it.

  7. There's a big bore in The White House just now. Just like you and Karen, he is also involved in major home renovations. The main difference being that your daughter owns her house whereas The Big Orange Bore's stay is only temporary - like a guest in a B&B.

  8. Well he seems to have a short term on this Earth anyway. His destruction of part of the White House was terrible and I think he is being held to account for his actions. Good thing we have heritage laws in this country that protect old buildings.
