24th June 2026

Burnham:  Well he rode in on his charger (the train) into town with a few of his loyal followers.  Gosh how the journalists worshipped him,  like frenzied piranha they fell on him.  Here was fresh meat news ready to be torn apart in the future.   Marina Hyde writes of the whole show that in all the hullaballoo the terrible train crash on Friday was quietly forgotten.  One driver dead,  and 53 people remaining in hospitaleight of which are seriously injured  The photo that accompanies the article shows people working to help, this is how society should be seen, please journalists, not the latest scoop of nothingness.

The trains are also feeling the heat, many trains have been taken out of service here, probably about half.  My daughter (who always tells entertaining tales about Manchester) sat on a train to come home but the train was full to the hilt and rail staff were going along asking people to get off so that the train could move.  She decided to get off, probably because of the young man sat next to her was smelling strongly of 'weed'.   He had also broken off with his girlfriend and lamented very verbally about it.  Karen got off the train but  she looked back to see if anyone had taken her seat but no it was empty.  She does what she always does and goes and gets a meal and waits till later to catch a less full train home.

To return to Burnham, I sincerely hope he does make a difference, we are in for a good 'left' solution and at least he has some experience of running a metropolis.  As a note, I almost got run over by one of his trams, they are silent!  Also I hope Ed Milliband gets to be chancellor, we need more green action on the ground, as this heat wave shows.  Will some people please take their heads out of the sand and start recognising we are in trouble as far as Climate Change is happening.

And yes I note how much high regard Milliband gets from his critics, after all who can forget the Edstone, we couldn't because we lived not far from the village of Edstone but for a moment just enjoy the beauty of Yorkshire for a minute and then remember that politics are like a river, it just floats by.

  1. I like that sweet photo of the sheep. Peaceful.
Sorry to hear about the train wreck. Of course, all of the people pitched in to help and the emergency personnel did such a good job. That's what good people do and most are good people despite what the news or politicians try to make us believe - dividing us so they can take advantage. Disgusting.
It's so much better to see the helpers.

    1. There are a lot of sheep up on the moors Ellen, occasionally they wander down into the towns and then people start agitating about them. It is the quiet action that goes unnoticed and yet it is that whole social order that most people follow.

  2. Here, years ago, we had a cartoon called Bloom County. Berkeley Breathed ays portrayed the press like a pack of hounds chasing after a story. It was very clever and even more apt today than it was 30 years ago.

Here, I can tell you that I am sick to death of hearing about reflecting pools and ballrooms, although one exchange gave me hope. tRUMP: "the pool was vandalized." Reporter: "Do you have proof?" tRUMP leans forward with his pig eyes and pursed lips: "A vandal cut a 350 ft gash in the bottom of the pool. How's THAT for proof?" Reporter: we have people there right now, and that simply doesn't seem to be the case."

Exchanges like that are what we need to see more of. The truth is going to be the only thing that beats his monstrous lies.

    1. Well I won't talk about the reflecting pool, it is being done to death at the moment. But humour seeps in everywhere Debby, which should be consoling amongst the wretched things happening. Also are not more and more judges in America finding against Trump's preposterous lies.

  3. Hurrah for Andy Burnham! In this age of charisma and looking and sounding the part, maybe Andy really can make a difference but already I detect the foul odour of venom as right wing journalists and their right wing media vehicles get ready to poison everything - just as they did with Sir Keir Starmer. Brexit has left us up shit creek without a paddle and Mr Blobby in The White House has provided yet more sea anchors. And as for that odious Badenoch... I think I am about to be sick!

  4. Glad you got that off your chest Neil. It will be interesting times in the future, and devolution talked about - yikes. Also some talk of bringing some of the trappings of government 'Up North'. A new play sheet to be scored.

  5. Such clean white sheep - very pretty. It is awful that tragic events are overtaken by reports of things in the Westminster Bubble. I wonder how much coverage will be given to the earthquakes in Venezuela and Japan?

  6. It is almost a non-caring attitude on the part of the journalists, although their employees will say there is not enough money to send out journalists . Janice
