Each month I treat myself to something, it could be a book, some spinning wool, or patchwork, this month it has been patchwork material. The scheme in mind is for Lillie, aged 8 so some funny materials are dictated. There is a surge of excitement on opening parcels, my choices are not always what I want them to be in the cold light of day, but this time pastel shades fit the bill. I can see I have gone for bird/flower motifs so this almost dictates larger panels to show the patterns against the background colour of pale blue. A lot of deliberation will go into arrangement before the materials hit the cutting board, and to be honest I quite like the 'old-fashioned' way of just using materials that come to hand, but we will see.

For a small child these seem ideal to me (love the owl one). I used to do a lot of patchwork so I know the thrill of a parcel of new material coming through the post, opening it and sorting out the colours - love the smell too.
ReplyDeleteYes parcels are always exciting, for the time being I shall just shuffle the materials around till something emerges. Lillie in fact loves purple, but it is a dark colour to play with and could not find adequate patterns for her.
DeleteSnap! I have the bug again, badly. Today we joined Gabby for lunch in Swansea and visited a shop there with hundreds of bolts of patchwork materials at sensible prices (£5.99 a metre). FAR better than the £10.99 and £11.99 I was having to pay at our localish shop last year. I will be back . . .
ReplyDeleteI love the prints you have chosen for Lilly and she will love the finished quilt, I am sure. I loved the owl one too. Your jewel coloured cushion is gorgeous. Is the orangey print a Kaffe Fasset one?
It is a bug Jennie you're right, or it could be winter coming on... Part of the cushion is Kaffe Fasset, the mixed blocks though must be from my ex sister-in-law because there is Thai prints amongst them. £5.99. is cheap, Cotton Patch is far more expensive...
