Well when you watch 'Countryfile at Castle Howard' on Sunday, remember amongst all the smiles and false bonhomie of the presenters, that is was hell for the people to get there and hell to get out of the car park! I have been warned by several people don't go anywhere near to Castle Howard this weekend, or York, do not travel on the A64.  I actually don't like Countryfile, it has a fairy tale image of the countryside that is not true.  Though I expect the programme is in the corner for the farmers, who are now beginning to wake up to the fact that 'No deal' B........ is not in their best interest.  As someone said, the farmers should not have been so ready to plaster their fields with signs for 'leave'.  A simplistic idea (with no forethought) or information that now ploughs steadily on.
Well enough of that.  Yesterday I got rid of my unfinished kit dolls house to a teacher, who arrived in her people's carrier which had 3 of her 4 children.  She is going to make the dolls house up for a Xmas pressie for her mum, gosh it must be wonderful being young and able to do so much
Why italicised people carrier, they drive me nuts in car parks, always taller that my Picanto Kio, you edge carefully out because they are so tall and long, and immediately have to stop because someone else is coming.  Since taking up driving my ability to put my car straight in car parks always seem to leave the car on the slant.  Our small Co-op has a small difficult car park, and people often get cross in it as they get stuck, occasionally driving into each other bumpers or one of the corners of buildings that it is blessed with.  York Hospital car pack with which I have a close relationship with of late, has what I call the 'round and round' entrance, meaning when I come back to the car I can never find it, and trudge piteously around the levels marking out all the red cars - and there is plenty  of them!  In the naming of cars, mine is called Ogy, which is rather clumsy.
A pretty little white kitten with black markings has appeared in the garden, my first thoughts were that it is feral.  Jo brought the sheep's fleece round yesterday afternoon, and she says the mother with four young had been in her barn as well and definitely feral.  She says we should feed them and then catch them!! Apparently there are feral centres which neutralise their fecundity;) ie. castrate and then you can release them as feral, and feed if you want.  Jennie of Codlins and Cream is probably the expert on that....

  1. Oh expert indeed - trouble is, once neutered they remember where they have been fed and stay on! I am soft hearted of course and tried to chase the last two away, but they were determined . . . and we are backup to 7 cats now! We had another one this week - at death's door by the look of him, and with what appeared to be an eye tumour. I fed him (he was almost skeletal) but next day he was gone so probably the others drove him off. Otherwise it was going to be put food in a cat carrier, tempt him and a one way trip to the vet.

Glad we weren't near Castle Howard - must have been bedlam. I don't follow Countryfile for the same reasons as you. Mind you, I try not to watch the BBC much at all as I like to see news and programmes without a bias.

    1. Yes it is surprising how biased the BBC has become. I read about the little cat that has since disappeared elsewhere, sad of course but cats do breed around farms. Here they will be killed on the road, that is why we never have had one.

  2. I think that car parks are dangerous places because it is so easy to have a little bump or get your bodywork scratched - I'm talking about the cars - not the owners! And often the parking bays are simply too narrow. Oh and...never fear about Brexit now that Doris Johnson is in charge. She organised several successful whist drives in our local church hall before running off with Barry Symonds - her toyboy.

  3. True about narrow parking bays, and getting bumped. At the hospital you can see where people have scratched their cars on the concrete pillars. Mine also has some paintwork removed at the doctor's surgery, again because of three walls and a narrow space to reverse out of!

  4. Most of our farming friends (and we too) voted to Remain - I still feel that way but there is not a lot I can do about it, so I just get on with life.

    1. We hang on a thread waiting for the governing class to act sensibly; almost impossible.

  5. Sorry to see that you also have traffic jams in the beautiful country!

  6. Hi Tabor, in a small country traffic jams are the norm unfortunately. They have been trying to direct the traffic for the show round the small country lanes, it will be murder for all concerned.

  7. Feral cats are heartbreakers. Almost as bad are those who come to the doorstep obviously having a connection with humankind and wanting/needing that again--in that way has our cat population always grown.
I refuse to drive beyond the extent of our rural area--never was confident with city driving, and after the Wyoming years when driving was about lonely routes over the high plains or the mountains with seldom another vehicle about--I don't even like being a passenger on a 4 lane.

  8. Well the latest on the kittens, is that they were all up a tree in someone's garden, the mother might have given birth up there, but I am not sure of that story. Drove back from the hospital at dusk on Wednesday - very scary through the countryside especially the dark woods.
