Yorkshire Day

Rather late in the day but to celebrate Yorkshire Day on August 1st, this arrived in my inbox from Historic England.

There are a few castles around here, Helmsley immediately comes to mind and of course Pickering.

  1. The pictures are both wonderful, Thelma, but Helmsley Castle is outstanding.

  2. Helmsley is a pretty little town, the castle seems to stand guard over it. At its feet is a walled garden which is open to the public.

  3. I can remember spending the day in Pickering once (whilst Keith took the kids to Flamingo World or something similar). I sat up on a sunny bank (it may have been the motte) and ate an ice cream before going down and exploring the Museum.
