1st March 2025 - White Rabbit, White Rabbit, White Rabbit!

What happened yesterday in the Oval office of the White House was a disgusting theatre show of two bullies in the school yard.  Zelensky was set upon without mercy by two arrogant men who are scheming and maneuvering for their own benefit.  Forget about all those young men killed in war between the Russians and the Ukrainians - they are dispensable, disposable? against the need to grab mineral wealth that lies in Ukrainian territory.

So I also will keep the Ukrainian flag at the side of my blog as a sign of my support and I hope Britain and Europe will keep to their promises of support for the country.

Things may change but right and wrong does not.  The moral code of the three men - The Orange One, Muskrat and Vile Vance has been bleached out of their souls!

And now to something gentler, the River Ter in Essex.  Small gentle river winding between willows, often clogged by fallen trees and over exuberant water plants and very occasionally had fish in it.

I am deserted once again this weekend, Andrew up to Devon to visit his grandchildren, my daughter to London to visit the two girls.

No I did not go down the stairs backwards this morning saying 'White Rabbit' the March Hare is not going to get me yet...

If you do click on the River Ter, remember to click the photo so that they have a black frame.  When I go back to old blogs, there is a sense of sadness, not only for Paul but for Pat who often commented on my blog but there again with Paul we pottered along in our retirement experiencing a new life with each other and the magic of the natural world gives much joy.

  1. If the March hare is going to get anyone I have so.e suggestions. Yesterday was awful. I was ashamed of my country.

  2. It was appalling the scene in the Oval Office, a complete change of world order and diplomacy Debby. But I think there is a good fight back in America against these men and there certainly is one in Canada ;)

  3. Another lovely reference to the watery flatlands of north Essex, thank you Thelma. Angela’s blog post (Tracing Rainbows) reminded me this morning of my explorations by bike of this beautiful landscape while I was at university at Colchester as she will be spending this weekend in Constable Country, lucky her. Hope you don’t feel lonely home alone this weekend. How do you cope with an empty rambling house? I’ve been stuck at home feeling poorly with a horrid cold most of the week and have felt a bit lonely and sad as I lose my husband to Parkinson’s Dementia. I badly need a new knitting project to keep my brain soothed. I bought two skeins of Kinross 4ply from my local yarn shop to have a play with but haven’t decided what I want to knit yet. The yarn feels and looks like cashmere when blocked so I need to think carefully about what will do it justice. Sarah x

  4. Your nice later words were a good antidote against what I saw happen in the US of A. Just so awful.

  5. Hello Sarah, Essex is more occupied with people than either Suffolk or Norfolk but it does have marvellous countryside and slow rivers. We never got down to Constable country but travelled down to Sea Henge and the coast. I don't really experience loneliness I enjoy solitude which sounds rather selfish but there it is. I have found lately that knitting two yarns together, a thin silk and an ordinary yarn creates a warmer airier knit. There is such a lot of lovely colours around it is difficult to know where to start. I do like the John Arbon yarns but they are expensive. Knitting has become fashionable over time and it is interesting to see the creation of all the different yarns and the much wider sophisticated colours that have been introduced.
