what can I say? America is despised by an awful lot of people at the moment, although we love many of you but it is basically because of your government's outrageous behaviour to several countries. Blatant takeovers, I don't think. Usha Vance is not welcome (wife of JD Vance) in Greenland, no one wants to host her, so her husband grasping the stinging nettle bravely is going to inspect the American base that is there. A show of military force maybe.
We find ourselves in extraordinary times, perhaps it is a good idea for the EU and Gt. Britain to revue their defense spending. It would never happen to us? Perhaps Starmer instead of rolling over and having his belly rubbed like a dog by the Americans should actually stand up and bark aggressively. Canada is all ready for the fight, though economically it will cause drastic losses.
But I am beginning to wonder if the Democratic party in America is just sitting back on its heels and waiting for the great downfall of the blessed three and not prepared to fight.

I wish life could return to its old ways, messy of course but then humans rule the roost. Here, Matilda returns home today, she goes off with her mother to Switzerland this weekend. She has finally nailed a journalist job, online magazine. She has been working in an Iranian restaurant in London for the last couple of months to pay for her share of the flat, so it seems she may be off on a writing career, bless her.

ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that Europe and Great Britain really need to develop military strength within themselves. I am not a war monger, but a strong and cohesive military force in Western Europe and Great Britain is really needed.
Is Greenland just to distract the masses from what is really going on in the US?
Yes it was a lovely card from my daughter. Yes we need to be more independent in this country and Europe, notwithstanding a cold war with Russia. What is going on in America is really scary for the people there, the terrible three are like bull elephants charging through a china shop breaking everything in their path.
DeleteOh, it's a mess here all right. I read today that there have been 60 court rulings to stop what Trump and Musk are doing but so far they have ignored all but 4 of the rulings. So it's coming down to a showdown between them and the courts. The Democrats are speaking up all over the country, but the Republicans control the House and Senate and they are doing nothing to stop it all. After the scandal over the security issues, I'm hoping that their incompetence will cause them to fail. Who will pick up the pieces? How will we recover? I have no idea.

DeleteI find it all so overwhelming at times. I really can't bear it. But I know that it is dangerous not to be informed. JD Vance's assertion that the US must have Greenland for world security. All I could think of is that if they were all that concerned about world security, they would knock off the bullshit, stop conspiring with Russia, and stop kicking our allies in the teeth. That would go along way towards world security.

ReplyDeleteWell Mother Nature has erupted elsewhere in Myanmar taking at least a thousand lives, so we should be careful. Someone said, and this, a frightening thought, that the sudden realisation that the ground you stand on is suddenly not firm a horrible sensation. At the moment it is similar with politics, we just have to hope the best side wins.
