Falling in love with a place - Hutton-le-Hole

The place to be.  How often I see this as I flick through the news.  Well what about Hutton-le-Hole.  It is probably situated in the most beautiful part of the North Yorkshire moors.  Its village neatness framed by the moors. I typed Hutton-le-Hole in the search box and came up with a mix of blogs.  Weaver of Grass, my dear Pat, following me on my journey and time in North Yorkshire.  Do we have to have sad memories all the time I wonder as we get old.  There was my darling Paul, always ready to drive Jev the car to our latest exploration.  I gave him a new lease of life as he left behind his familar place in Chelmsford.

I chatter to myself quite happily on my blog, it is my blog after all and as Virginia Woolf says No need to hurry. No need to sparkle.  No need to be anyone but oneself.

So whenever I worry about what to write and I was definitely more erudite in earlier years I buckle my sword and allow myself to write what flows through the mind, tackling sadness along the way ;)

  1. Hutton-le-Hole is a wonderful place. Is it somewhere you often went with Paul when you lived at Normanby?
I have fond memories of attending a wandering theatre group's production in the manor house at the museum. It was candlelit inside and totally black outside. It was so atmospheric and made me appreciate how important light would have been in the past. Our family also has a special link to Hutton-le-Hole as my husband's grandmother was born there.

    1. Yes Tracy, the pub at Hutton-le-Hole served fairly good meals and we would take the family there. We never went into the museum unfortunately though it was the place to go. It is called the Ryedale Folk Museum, should anyone be in the area, I always vaguely thought of it as a tractor museum!

  2. I hasten to preface this with it's about my life, and I recognise my best years are behind me. I love my history and memories. There are a few things to look forward to in life, but nothing of any great significance. As my Ray used to say, if you can't say anything positive to say, don't say it. He should have listened to his own words. Life is not all balls and skittles.

  3. Yes Andrew, coming to terms that the best of life's memories is behind one is a difficult one. Often I think of going private and just chattering to myself. But thoughts spring to mind always. Especially the stories. The Edstone stone a promise by the Labour party in 2015 and its 6 pledges ;) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EdStone

  4. I enjoyed looking back at your old posts and photos, Thelma. Such beautiful sites and it was nice to see the comments between you and Pat. I miss her blog posts as I learned so much from her.
I am glad you are still posting and often learn something from you, too. You know so many things that I have not heard of before! :)

    1. I chatter about things that are on my wave length Ellen which perhaps is not everyone's cup of tea. But I like going back.

  6. Pickering was our shopping town A/F. A good little market town. I think North Yorks is the most beautiful of the Yorkshire Ridings.
