Sunday

Early Sunday morning the swallows wheel around the church wall, Lucy snores gently on the sofa.  Yesterday was a day of visitors, J and I called in for a chat on their way for a walk round the fields. C had called in to discuss the barbecue which is happening next week. Then J came in the evening she is great fun, I learnt that she had three blind sheep, all the sheep round us in the fields are 'pets' or perhaps grass guzzling lawnmowers. 'Pin back your lugholes and listen'  do you remember whose catchphrase that would be?* J's husband is a town crier and was playing round with opening words.  J will chat for hours, meet her in town or in a shop and her husband will get so exasperated with her that he threatens to drive off without her, but eventually she went back to her supper of oxheart.

  1. How I envy those artistic skills Thelma. I have done a lot of beading, embroidery and quilting over the years but drawing and painting I find impossible.

    1. we all probably have wanted to be an artist, I lack patience and skill of course. That makes me laugh, I did try for art school when young but got turned down. It rubbed against the soul..........

  2. I used to sketch and once or twice tried painting. Maybe I will venture again as we have a studio near here that provides workshops. I just photo-shop my photos as I showed recently on my "other" blog.

  3. The details of the calla lily are exquisite!
I have several relatives and acquaintances who talk at great length, almost a monologue. I deal with this better if I can do something with my hands while absorbing the flow of words. Meeting such a person while shopping or doing errands makes me want to run the other way!

  4. Hi Sharon, one of the things you learn in life is that you are a 'listening ear' to many people, they are not interested in your side of the conversation and live in their own world. found another Fidelia Bridges thi time of a thistle.

  5. Now that I live alone Thelma (re your comment on vegetarians) I hardly eat any meat - maybe a little chicken now and again, and usually sea bass, which I love, lightly cooked in a little oil (pan fried) on a Friday - our market day and we have a super fish stall. Other than that is is mainly veggie food.

    1. All the years I have had to say to people I am not a vegetarian, I also eat chicken and fish on occasions, but love vegetables. I think it is good to eat less meat, so much vegetarian food is not very inspiring and we save a few more animals not being killed, though if we all ate less meat there would be more food to share worldwise.
