The Marble Arch mound. True meaning of a folly, or pouring your money down a large shaft? or up into the air whichever takes your fancy.
I am sure the intention was good but Councillor Rachel Robathan will have a hard task selling the mound and does it not put the rather formal Marble Arches' nose out of joint?
I must say I do find it attractive Thelma - but whether there is that kind of money to spare is another thing.
ReplyDeleteNot for me I'm afraid Pat, hills don't come square neither do mounds.
DeleteRachel Robathan should have a go at selling sand to Arabs or ice cubes to Eskimos. Two million pounds in a cash-strapped northern school could have done a lot of good. As you suggest, the mound somehow diminishes The Marble Arch.
ReplyDeleteYes a frivolously expensive and rather ugly monument, poor trees will probably be blown over in the first storm.
DeleteWeird!
ReplyDeleteThey could have opened a viewing terrace on top of one of those tall buildings in the area there. Maybe it will look better when it has grown foliage? Will tourists come to climb it and spend their money in the neighborhood? Unusual looking!?
ReplyDeleteIt is quite pretty there with the Marble Arch, I remember we sat on a park bench watching the horse guards exercising their horses, the mound rather spoils the ambience I think.
DeleteIs sounds like another millenium dome.
ReplyDeleteAlways money to spend in London of course.
