I am making no judgements on this, but did not something go wrong yesterday when the celebrations of Asian people in the North had the plug pulled out at the last minute and no family reunions on their big night of celebration. Actually it probably stopped a few people from dying from this virus, so it was a sensible decision but could the shutdown have been declared much earlier, after all it might have stopped all these people from running down to the beaches.
Let herd immunity work its miracles!
Snatched from F/B. Thank you Tom Spark |
And on a more cheerful note Happy Lammas Day, the day when the first wheat harvested is baked into bread. Yesterday I baked rolls to go with the soup I had made, and also baked my tea bread which I have with coffee. I am very virtuous not putting fat into the ingredients, but of course I eat the tea bread thickly buttered!
Anglo Saxon terminology Hlas mass or loaf mass. It is also Yorkshire Day, though why they think they are so marvellous 'Up North' I don't know ;)💖
I'll tell H.I. you said that. She's from Sheffield.
ReplyDeleteWell to be honest does it really matter what part of the country you are from, we have all moved around over time, that allegiances are foolish. I was born in Wolverhampton, but feel no need to go back.
DeleteThose crowds are the same here. The large number of deaths doesn’t seem to affect many who think celebrating is worth the risk.
ReplyDeleteHappy Lammas day to you, Thelma. Bread without butter is just wrong. Enjoy!
There is also a great deal of exuberance as well, which has resulted in drunken fighting by the young, the poor police are expected to sort it of course, but where do you start?
DeleteButter, cheese and cream are my downfall though ;)
They !!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know the origin of the word Lammas.
'they' It is quite something really, history in these Northern parts is so different, you can almost feel the Saxon and Viking invasions, or at least incursions Tasker.
DeleteIt really does seem like last minute ideas, written down at the pub on the back of a postage stamp doesn't it? I think they suddenly realized that it was Eid and that it would be BME folk celebrating it and had an Oh-oh moment!
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting the link to the archaeology videos recently - now we have the viewings of last week behind us, I will have time to indulge myself.
It is a very good video Jennie you should enjoy it. As for the commands coming out of government, it seems to want to keep us in a state of insecurity.
DeleteI can only echo what Starting Over said. We are too carless.
ReplyDeleteTrue Joanne, Britain is an overcrowded country though, being cooped up in the cities and town on hot days is a problem.
