'They hang you on a little string, and wait for you to give up'

Could not resist. Thanks to Amateur Therapy.

Going belly-up.  What is you may ask. well it is that dreaded move (Brexit) we are making next March.  To be honest I have given up, the reams of speculation that goes on, get us absolutely nowhere, and as the more sensible politicians who hit the screens yesterday evening said - read it first for the facts! the 500 page DRAFT (note that word).

Don't they look gorgeous, I just love yellow sweet tomatoes

So I will return to a better email in my mail, the discussion on 'Plastic Free Packaging for Fruit and Vegetables'.  It is a start, yesterday I read of a small supermarket in London going plastic free, cheeses wrapped in a wax substitute and bacon  as well.  Small moves I know, but we know that Iceland and Morrisons are already dipping their toes into the water on this issue.  Somehow the lazy attitude of our manufacturers of plastic will get the message, and slowly the entrepreneurial skills of small firms will overcome wholesale dependency on plastics - it will be a long road, we need to thank David Attenborough for the start.

So many problems in society, which subject to start with? Both Paul and I watch, with ever increasing mystification, people on Victoria Derbyshire's tv spot in the morning as we make the coffee. If there is a person there is a problem needing to be tackled by whatever social organisations exists.  It is sad  we have all returned to gazing at our own navels, the fault of social media of course........

Another bit of a rant!!! Fracking, it won't hurt says the government, those minor earthquakes that Cuadrilla is experiencing at the Lancashire site - harmless.  Yes, well have you seen the damaged houses in the Netherlands?  100,000 houses damaged so far, and the title above comes from the video embedded in the article.

  1. I too have closed my ears and eyes to the Brexit negotiations, but I could sure eat a bowl of those yellow tomatoes.

    1. It's a pigs ear, just goes on and on and on Pat. Shame we only have a limited growing season for tomatoes in this country, and then we go back to what I call bog standard tomatoes with no taste.

  2. I've grown all sorts of tomatoes in the last 40+ years but never yellow. Don't know why.

I bought two loose carrots today without putting them in a bag but no choice for apples and pears.

apparently fracking in Canada has caused no problems - probably because Canada is HUGE and they can work where no one lives!

    1. I always grow a few yellow ones Sue, trouble is the selection of plants to buy gets bigger and bigger, but those small tomatoes are always sweet.
Well as you know, minor earthquakes at the Lancashire site, were happening practically on the first day.

  3. The only place I can buy vegetables and fruits already wrapped in plastic is a worker owned store where all the packaging is also for big families, hence hard for us to keep fresh once we start using it. I guess the benefit of the plastic wrapped is safer from others handling it (maybe) and lasts longer in the store (maybe). Everywhere else that I buy fresh produce it's open to examine and put into a bag-- plastic, paper, or bring your own.

I don't know anything about how Brexit will work but we are in a time of major change and with China becoming probably the world power sooner than later, things were going to change no matter who are leaders were-- well, that and global warming.

    1. Hi Rain, I think our country was shocked at the amount of plastic in the sea and now there is a movement to reduce its use drastically. Many people get cross about the fact that such humdrum fruits as apples and pears are also wrapped in plastic and you have no choice as to how many you can pick.
Yes it will be interesting seeing China becoming a world power. The meeting at the Armistice with Merkel/Macron, then Trump turning up and later of course Putin. Trump greeted him with a broad grin, which has not gone unnoticed. ;)

    2. A lot of fruit and veg is already 'pre-wrapped' in is own skin - bananas, avocados, oranges and grapefruit for example. The only reason for popping those things into a small, plastic FREE store bag is for our own convenience. If we had to pay for those small bags, hanging on the fruit and veg aisles, we might think twice about using them. Solution: either just don't bother popping them into a plastic bag or take your own (environmentally-friendly) bag or box into the store to put them in.
