Pure Nostalgia

Happiness was always at the centre of my being when I heard the Victorian Garden music, slow paced and idyllic it represented a lost time.  The music accompanied the series of a walled garden, where once there was pineapples grown, and the whole lazy life of the rich could have grapes on the Xmas table at this festive time of the year.
Of course we have them already in this modern world, all the year round, but there was a time when such luxuries could only appear on the table of the rich.

For a moment the soft voice of the gardener taking us through his kingdom in this slow moving series was a halt to the more mundane aspects of modern life.  Now to it has grown faded with the passing of time, but I shall watch one or two episodes this month.  It will hide that negative issue that fills our airways all the time!.

  1. Anything that helps a person stay positive is a win in today's world where upset is the name of the game especially in the outside/media world. I get mine mostly from Hallmark-y type movies and sometimes singing a carol as loud as I can with nobody in the house but the cats to hear me ;)

    1. My singing leaves a lot to be desired as well. Singing 'O what a beautiful morning' because I always love 'the corn is as high as an elephant's eye' this morning ;)

  2. I don't remember The Victorian Kitchen garden, but the music is nice.

    1. It was made in 1987, the footage is already beginning to fade. Harry Dodson presented it Sue.

  3. You remind me that so many things that used to be luxuries (riding instead of walking, shrimp, fresh fruit, even indoor plumbing) are a given!

    1. We forget these things Tabor, everything can be bought nowadays, until of course war intervenes.

  4. Is anything in the entertainment world better than it used to be? I am searching to find something and at present failing miserably. Love this
    gentle music.

  5. I think the world has become much harsher Pat, the tv programmes, also more competitive, think Strictly or the cooking programmes.

    1. I think the thing about gardening, as present day presenters such as Monty Don show, is that the growing of flowers or vegetables can never be hurried.

  7. We take so much for granted today, but I remember a time when it was less about things and more about people and certain foods were only available for a limited time of the year. I never realized that grapes were mostly only consumed by the rich, but now thinking about it, we seldom had them when I was growing up.

  8. Of course with each country it is different, our climate has never been up to growing things that need a lot of heat. In V/G they used to make hotbeds up for such things as pineapples, heat was a very precious resource in the greenhouses. As children just after the war, bananas and oranges were a source of wonder...
