Ciaran at Whitby

There are only two words to use, one not really suitable.  But why are people so stupid?  Three cheers for the Coastguard Rescue.

Edit: Andrew's dad is appearing again tomorrow for a short piece on Gardener's World....

  1. Not at the front of the queue when the brains were handed out!

  2. Bad enough to risk your own life, but your child's and the coast guard's!

  3. Terrifying - how can folk be so stupid.

  4. In the dim days of old, I can imagine my younger brother daring the waves. These people are fools.

  5. It is one thing for adults to take chances with their own lives but to take a child out there? My god. They are idiots. That could have turned into a horrible, horrible tragedy.

  6. As if there weren't enough problems for the emergency services to deal with.

  7. All I can think of that father who took his child out that he had no imagination of what the sea represents. The vast tonnage of water that lays behind each wave. Good brave men have to risk their lives to save foolish people. Paul always supported the lifeboat's charity RNLI. Perhaps someone should shake the charity mug under the noses of these idiots.

  8. I felt bad for the Coast Guard men that had to risk their lives for those silly people. The pier should be blocked off before a big storm so no one can walk on there.

  9. I enjoyed last night’s Gardeners’ World very much. I thought Andrew’s dad’s garden was going to be the Cumbrian one so I was surprised to see it is an exotic jungle in Chiddingfold, about 20 minutes’ drive from where I live in the South Downs. I hope one day that Andrew and your daughter will take you down south to visit it as it looked really special. I love gardens that have evolved gently with their owner over a lifetime. Garden and owner become as one. The Cumbrian garden was pretty special too. Tough conditions but I thought the terraced plateaus for veg growing which had been created by visiting Japanese students was inspired. The message from both gardens was to know your soil, or even to know your soul! Sarah in Sussex

    1. Hi Sarah, yes I will definitely go down, perhaps in the summer. I think Andrew's dad was a scientist, which probably gave him the know-how of the jungle garden. That and of course, the animals that had probably manured the ground before they bought the house. The Cumbrian one, also the result of hard work, again inspired by ideas it was really good in the vegetable area. Learning to use the high hedges against the S/W winds and create mini eco systems to grow the vegetables.
