Bad Banksy

 Bristol old 'Banksy'  street art

Okay what made me smile yesterday, was the news that Banksy is in New York putting his thumb to his nose at the local dignitaries.  Banksy as a graffiti artist was part of the local scene in Bristol, and of course it spilled over into Bath.  Luckily for our local anonymous socialist recorder of  history he became famous and his artwork adorns many a famous city.  But  mayor Bloomsberg does not like him in New York Get Banksy article written up by my other half tells the tale.  Bad Banksy even sold some of his works for $60 for a day when he could have sold it for something like £20,000.  Was he remembering  the graffiti lump of concrete prised off a London wall and then sold for £75,000 in America by some get-rich-quick merchants much to the disgust of the locals.  Note that there was only about 6 works sold at a cost of $420 dollars in the video, will the penny drop when the recipients discover they have original Banksys....

  1. I don't know if you remember Tom Keating he was an art forger. He did what he did because too many of the wrong people were seeing art as a way of making money rather than the beauty of the piece. It is sad when everything is about what it is worth than its true beauty.

    1. Hi Paula, Vaguely remember Tom Keating. Though I am not a great fan of street art, Banksy is much better than Damien Hirst ;) and very true what you said about the value of things.

    1. Hi Kath, typical of councillors, there are vague photos of Banksy on the net, he looks quite ordinary if the photos are to be believed.

  3. Not much chance of one here unless he feels inclined to spray paint a gorse bush.

    1. Hi Em, He is too much of an urban guerilla person to slog out to the wilds of Dartmoor, all he would have would be the tors...

  4. As Em rightly says, I don't think Banksy would show up in the Dales - I feel he needs a wider audience than he would get up here.
As to what he looks like - I am sure he is quite ordinary.

  5. Yes he seems to need the cities for his audience, also thank goodness he is not out there painting the rocks...
