News

"Nobody has really challenged the Government in a ruthless and meticulous way that has struck home.”" Dorothy Byrne.

How do you get your news?  Maybe you would describe me as leftwing, but what I want from news is truth.  Every morning I hear the BBC Today's programme give out the news with a dry and impersonal nature but I do not necessarily believe them or the politicians that are interviewed.

I go to my favourite newspaper, the Guardian, I read Marian Hyde and John Crace for humour over politics but clever words do not make a truth and have no effect on people such as BJ.  I turn to Paul Waugh of the 'Waugh War Zone', he potters around on other people's blogs and analysis's in a fair way.  Andrew Neil's new, and I have to say this, rightwing radio programme, is already getting the thumbs down.

On the television I turn to Channel 4 for what I believe is good, local and world wide truth, but I see there is a plot afoot to undermine it in some way, similar to the need to take the BBC down.

We wander from day to day in a blizzard of changing circumstance, Brexit is now only coming to the fore as the pandemic in this country slips away.

I know in parliament that there are people called to account for their behaviour, Cummings being the latest, but we need our Prime Minister up on the charge of blatant footling around in a role he should not be in.  However many lies he tells, they should be called in, do not let him rest on us coming through the pandemic with flying colours - we didn't. And now as they, the Cabinet, blunder and flounder their way through Brexit remember to spread your reading.....

  1. Doesn't matter how many times you point out BJ's exaggerations, inaccuracies, evasions and lies, it doesn't bother him. His version is already the one that's been heard.

  2. Crisis such as the two we are simultaneously going through now are a gift to popularists. BJ's slogan about 'getting things done' is very relevant. He certainly is.

    1. Yes I can see that, it is scary when the people are seen to be helpless. Though Rishi Sunak has bailed out a lot of people, should we grateful?

    2. We might not be so grateful when interest on borrowing (for governments) goes up. He did what he had to in a timely manner, which is more than can be said for BJ. They way things are going, not many big lenders are going to want to be investing soon.

  3. Well said Thelma. Knocking the BBC (and of course it sometimes makes mistakes) is very much in the interest of politicians who would prefer an illiterate, easily whipped up population. Depresses the hell out of me. Janx

    1. The politicians are schooled to learn how to swipe aside any relevant question with a nonsense answer. The BBC infuriates them Jan.

  4. I desspair of it all and in my cowardly way I opt out mentally. I see everything in such an appalling mess, I see all the faults in Brexir beginning to rear their ugly heads and I just thank my lucky stars that I am not just starting out on life. Perhaps I am a coward but it has all gone too far down the drain for me

    1. I suspect that many of the problems when we were growing up and entering the world was there as well Pat. Just that the 'media frenzy' hadn't hit the screen then.

  5. We have our PBS (Public Broadcasting) that seems to present a thoughtful, thorough look at the news. They will present different speakers to give opinions on topics and it is helpful, altho, it is more left-leaning. Fox News is avoided all the time as they just make up stuff and spread the lies that are coming from the Republicans here in the US. So you can probably see which way I am leaning. It is depressing the division that exists here and I don't know how we will move forward.

    1. The difference in opinion in the US is a bit scary, it sort of rumbles in the background between two sets of politics. Many people pin their hopes on Joe Biden but reading Murmurrs this morning, apart from making me laugh it also is sad.

  6. What do you think about “the I” newspaper?

    1. Not too keen, full of adverts and snappy headlines. Every time I go to read an article, 'Subscribe' rears its ugly head.
