Tuesday

Indifferent to snow, primulas and crocuses brave the cold.  Of course it has all disappeared, the lawn is a squelchy marsh, the river is flowing higher but the 12/15 feet it rose as the snow melt came down from the moors has undercut the banks, it is now much lower.  Drive through the countryside and there is standing water everywhere, a thoroughly miserable time of the year.  Lucy has to lose weight our vet said yesterday as she administered the vaccination - that will be a whole lot of tantrums!
Watched the mad-eyed Richard Dawkin on the fact that we should follow the American way of voting and demand two-thirds majority vote when such important issues as leaving Europe come up, for me it is a gamble either way and do I not hear the gentle thrum of war as Russia becomes aggressive.  Uneasy times.

  1. If we want a war Russia will give us one. Everybody should just calm down.

  2. Russia plays games as we do ourselves Rachel, sometimes it is just called brinkmanship but ultimately war is so terrible we cannot contemplate its consequences. And no we don't have a ruddy sign in the house about 'calming down';) life would be so boring!

    1. I didn't mean you personally to calm down. I meant the media and MPs. Putin will be laughing, if they want to talk up war, he will oblige.

    2. Yes I agree there Rachel, still today we have budgets and Austerity and 1.8 trillion pounds debt you would think that would keep them occupied.

  3. More and more whole societies are being left behind and starved or facing destruction of their world. The conservative warmongers are waiting in the wings to win them over.

    1. And sadly we are arming them. Historically it has probably always been like this, but the amount of suffering is terrible.

  4. " the lawn is a squelchy marsh"--what an apt description! Snow is at least pretty for a few hours even though tag-ends of winter are unwelcome.
The world situation is indeed uneasy--a gathering threat. In this country we are in thrall to a self-focused buffoon--the recent candidates for election leave me feeling that almost no one with integrity and intelligence wants to be involved.

    1. It is probably because there is underlying clay that makes it so wet. We live in a great bowl called Pickering Vale, surrounded by hills, but it would originally have been very watery. Starr Carr a very famous Mesolithic site is but a few miles down the road.

    2. I should have added the settlement was by a lake.

    1. I suspect there is no proper way of arriving at an agreed vote anyway.

  6. Integrity and intelligence - two words sadly missing in most of those who sit in the House at present I am afraid.
