Friday 5th March 2021

The days roll on, the news changes and we are once more faced with the spice of the young royals.  Greed seems their motivation, the need to make money and refute the charges that are being brought against them.  All so ill timed, well maybe not, after all we are living in a different time.  Also, the Sussexes'  are not particularly bright and greed seems a powerful motivation at the moment.  Though some dreams fall to Earth.  Think Elon Musk and his rockets (the rich fleeing the Earth after messing it up?) which have burst into flames, so our young royals better be careful bathing in the warm slime of news.

 but
Elon Musk's latest rocket exploding on impact.

Yesterday had my annual medical MOT.  Did not exactly pass with flying colours, but my blood pressure is still in the rather broad band allowed, always been high and my weight has shot up a tad (grin).  She took blood, hate that, have to look away it was fairly painless.  Needles don't hurt anymore, look at those old black and white films with needles as thick as a pencil stub and be grateful we live with fine needles now.

My little cat seems to have vanished, as he is always around the hens, I  think either he has been locked in somewhere, or poisoned by presumably rat poison.  I have never seen the two other cats that I went to such pains to catch and have neutered either.  Living in the country and I think rat poison is probably used quite extensively.

My friend is complaining about moles in the church yard (not the ones that spy) no those little brown coated ones,  she is worried they may make it into her garden.  I remember the cruel traps that the mole catcher used to put down up on the Bath downs.   We actually do have a mole catcher round here.  I remember him once coming into the pub, a dapper little man dressed very beautifully in old fashioned clothes with gaiters, he was such a shock but given the nature of his trade, the clothes somehow made up for it.

  1. I always think that molecatchers' suits should be made of moleskins stitched together.

Poor Sussexes! Life has dealt them such a terrible hand. How have they been able to bear the stress? I would like to ask them just two questions:-
    1) How much money did you receive for the interview with Oprah?
    2) Will you give that money to the Yemen appeal?

    1. Moleskin was a valued commodity at one stage in history I think. The pair have definitely wandered down the wrong path, even if Megan is looking to spread 'compassion' round the world.

  2. I think we all know the answers to YPs two questions. Money is, as we all agree, the root of most things these days. When there is any appeal it is always those with a limited income who seem to manage to fork out a bit. And another trouble which doesn't help is that sadly the money doesn't always get to where it is intended to go. But when I think of the Royals - I despair at it all.

    1. Yes Pat, money has even evolved into non-money, or bitcoin to play around with.

  3. Your talking about your royals needing money reminded me of Weaver's post about the low raise for the health workers. Your health workers certainly deserve more! But..."The rich get richer..."
Glad your checkup went pretty well! Hope all test results are good ones!

    1. The rise for the health workers is much needed, but the government has made one of its mistakes on this one. There is enough money in the royal family to make them one of the richest families. They fulfil royal functions because as a country, three 'blessed' rules remain - Government, Church and the royal family. The media as Sharon says below love salacious news. Poor Megan was an easy target to take hold of.

  4. I've been interested in a rather superficial way in the dynasties of the English/European royal families. Admittedly my view is that of an American for whom the centuries of supposed 'royal' lineage doesn't make a lot of sense, ie royalty/kingship seems to have derived from military/political power hung onto by intermarriage.
That being said, the current royal family, perhaps due to advances in media, lives in a 'goldfish bowl' where every move is reported complete with salacious details. There's the pomp and luxury, to be sure, but beyond that, is there much opportunity for what I might describe as 'real life' with a chosen career, activities and even marriage not dictated by the reigning monarch? I think of Charles, doddering into his 70's as 'heir to the throne'--pottering about with a lifetime of patronages and formal appearances. I suspect Harry--and Meghan--are experiencing some 'backfire' from their decisions, but ironically they are able to live an exclusive millionaire/celebrity existence. Diana, herself born to an upper class seems the ultimate sad example of royal expectations imploding.

    1. Funnily enough Sharon I think Charles will make a good king, he is very 'green' in his thinking, though probably spoilt by an easy lifestyle. Hereditary is a strange being. We think of royalty as coming from a certain class, 'blue blood' different from the commoners. All a nonsense of course. Harry and Meghan have upset the tables, they have the storyline of Edward V111 and Wallis Simpson in this particular pairing. It will all end in tears!

  6. Yes Joanne there is a long way to go before we inhabit Mars or the moon and they don't even begin to be as beautiful as Earth.
