Wednesday 5th February

Light mornings come closer.  That soft pink/orange glow of the early morning sunrise belies the white frost that coats the lawn.
First world problems: my old toaster fused the kitchen lights the other day, so yesterday at Stricklands I bought a sky blue one, for toast is an absolute necessity.  Then my coffee grinder, which had been falling to pieces anyway  quietly gives up the ghost.  My morning coffee is an essential so John Lewis provided that.  Made by Krups, a German firm of course, and it stirs memories of whether we will have kitchen ware from this old firm in the future.
Has anyone seen Lakeland's catalogue, now that is truly  first world kitchen porn. Looking at the cake section and I can almost see it dragging women back into the kitchen to bake fancy cakes for their little ones. Cutters of all shapes, coffee machines galore and blenders.  All I ever ordered was some kilner jars and jam pots and am now tempted by useless stuff.
This month is big spend month anyway, heating oil to buy, and two new front tyres for the car.
Lucy's haircut did not come cheap either but she had her nails done as well. I might even treat her to a new collar, she needs her name tab updating, though she is never far from my side.  She is a little plump I know but is perfectly healthy for a dog in her 13th year, loves playing ball in the kitchen and jumps around like a young pup when she is happy.

  1. Lucy reminds me of myself when I have had my hair cut. I agree about Lakeland Porn - I never did make those fancy cakes - my son would be horrified these days if I even considered it. But do agree about the coffee - I have been without beans for a day or two and managing with instant (one or two of my friends prefer it would you believe it)but today had Lazy Sunday again - utter bliss - I really think I could be seduced into anything (well almost) with 'proper' coffee at breakfast - the only way to start the day. Yes - it has suddenly started to be lighter in the mornings.

  2. She looks rather shorn I must admit, and I rather like her shaggy look but she did need a bath. Coffee is so special I think, glad you got back to yours, I can't imagine owning a machine that you pop coffee pods into. There is a funny cartoon, two pictures, one is a man congratulating himself that he can make one cup of coffee with these pods, the next is the huge mountain of pods that need recycling..

  3. We went to Leeds today. Lucy looks positively sylphlike alongside the dogs you see there.

    1. I am not a great shopper, though my daughter and her girls are often flitting off to places like Leeds and Manchester on the train.

  4. Does your lovely dog act different when she has all that hair shaved away? Does she feel better or naked? LOL I no longer cook like I used to, but I do get lost in kitchen catalgues. It used to be that we wore out appliances and now I just age them out.

  5. I think she feels better, she doesn't feel the cold either so no coat bought for her. One of the things I dislike about kitchen gadgets is the space they take up. I have a stick blender for soups and a cheap rotary blender for cakes. But do agree that catalogues are very tempting.
