Not shutting one's eyes

Well I am not listening to news particularly, but American news is percolating through.  God it is scary!

When a leader turns on his own people in the supposedly free world than one has to question the sanity of the people around him who keep him in power.  Who would have thought when pulling a statue down we would then be embroiled in BLM.  Of course black lives matter but to use this as the basis for shutting down one's country and trying to frighten it into submission so as to be able to win the next election - scary.
I would like to think of Trump running scared, and I am sure he must feel the niggles of fear as he contemplates his future but I am beginning to wonder what this is all about.  Is it the rich calling on the armed guard to quell the forces of the poor.  Does democracy die in the face of one family, one political party intent on keeping their power?  Poor America.

Haven't quite lost my sense of humour yet though it has been AWOL for a while.  But have been listening to Noam Chomsky on Youtube whilst sewing and knitting. His breadth of knowledge is extraordinary, and he is so well received by his audiences that as always I see light at the end of the tunnel.

  1. I like to think that Trump will be kicked out soon, but if he could be elected in the first place, anything is possible. He is now showing himself for what he really is, and it would be very scary if the voters liked what they see.

    1. He is a complete political incompetent and that is being kind, Chomksy calls him 'vacuous' amongst other words. What I see though is a country being broken, and as Susie says below,"creeps in unmarked camouflage military uniforms" enforcing fear and violence amongst the communities.

  2. We have many people here in the US who pray for Trump, his good health, etc. I pray for Trump to be out of office as soon as possible. People are suffering and dying because of his lack of direction at the beginning of this pandemic. He says that it will disappear in almost every speech he does. It is increasing by thousands of cases each day. There is no disappearing with this virus.

Now he is insisting that the schools all be fully open for classroom learning, and then he says very few children get sick from this virus. I am so worried about my grandson attending school this year. I hope my daughter and son in law will decide not to send him.

And now this week more insanity, Trump has decided to start sending creeps in unmarked camouflage military uniforms with absolutely no identification, wearing gas masks so they will be safe from the tear gas they are hurling into crowds. They drive dark colored vans and randomly drag protesters into the van and take them away. They beat the hell out of a 65 year old veteran who was trying to speak to them. The veteran had his hands in the air to show he was not going to try to harm them. The paramilitary creeps beat him all over with batons and finally sprayed him in the face with pepper spray.
The true veteran did not fall down but walked away with honor. He had broken bones when he went to the hospital.

I don't think this has ever been done in the US and the real Military generals are very angry about these fake creeps in camouflage military gear worn to instill fear in the protesters being sent out into our cities.

The United States of America is now a different country than it has ever been. It feels to me like we are losing our national goodness to hatefulness and stupidity.

    1. I hope in the end it works out well for you and your country Susie, your anguish is there to see in your comment and I do not have to add anything. Take care.

  3. He must be an old man by now I remember studying him many years ago.
As for Trump - all very scary I think. I hope he is not re elected but I wouldn't bank on it.

  4. Yes Pat Chomsky has turned into a very old man, still able to gather his thoughts though, his grasp of American history is extraordinary though. As for Trump, the trouble is it is not all down to him but to the people around him.

  5. It is very scary. We are in a place no one could have ever imagined - not ever. So many horrible things are happening with no end in sight, except for an election which I also fear.

  6. Well I won't go into the parallels that could be drawn but when a country starts to breakdown then it is really worrying. Lets hope that he is not re-elected, the trouble with politics is there is never much choice. Chomsky says it is our moral duty to vote for the lesser of two evils.

  7. We are on the cusp of a cultural and political revolution. One side wants violence.

    1. That sounds frightening Tabor, the violence in America seems to get out of hand unfortunately.

  9. I agree the news from America is scary. I read a lot of American blogs and they often have links to things in the news that, like you, I have missed as I am avoiding the news these days.

  10. Must admit the news is like wading through a soggy mess all the time but we have to face it. It is funny and good how we have been introduced to other ways of life through blogging, always a learning experience.
