Saturday

The news is a series of ups and downs, yes we have the vaccine - good news, but we still need to wait for at least another few months for the effect to be felt - bad news.  Well Yorkshire Pudding made me pick up the phone and make an appointment for an ordinary annual flu vaccination,  I had put it off in my isolated loneliness!

This weather is miserable, cold and wet, with darkness and greyness to shut the heart out.  Golden leaves still hang onto the trees in the church yard though, the outside world is still at play, the crows set up a noisy chatter in the copse, the little wren hops around the garden furniture looking for a bit to eat.  The robin bullies the blue tits at the feeder, and the cat welcomes the bantams out of their coop with purrs - what a strange friendship.

Paul would have hated this weather, a fair weather person, he refused to go out if it was raining, it will be his birthday on the 18th, several years ago we went to the opening of the new Stonehenge visitor centre on his birthday and it was as cold and damp as it is today.  I took photos of the pagans, who were demonstrating as usual.  Talked to Julian Richards, the archaeologist.  Gosh was I overwhelmed by his presence ;).  And I remember taking the funny little carts they had then to the stones. There was a couple of people creating music to the stone outside the circle, a 'ringing' bowl and something else.  The English Heritage staff all neat and tidy in their new uniforms standing outside the draughty entrance, there was an air of excitement to it all.

I link this thought to the Stonehenge tunnel where everybody is getting their knickers in a twist elsewhere.  Well there is another tunnel just coming to completion in the Faroe Islands, it will link two islands, and they have allowed a creative artist in as well, no dull grey concrete surfaces but the colours of the sea...

Tunnels to connect Streymoy and Eysturoy

If I had a couple of more lives, I would be exploring all these islands that scatter the cold sea up North, but now the bantams need to be let out

  1. Aren't you going to have to keep the bantams in because of avian flu?

    1. I think only if it affects your area, though I notice a case reported in Allerton. But keeping them confined doesn't come in till 14th December.

  2. That tunnel looks like a James Bond set.

    1. I think it is rather marvellous, so much better than the Dartford tunnel, but expensive toll to pay.

  3. Had the flu jab a few weeks ago. We've been shielding ourselves. Doing anything like that can be quite daunting. They reckon you need to get the flu jab a week (or two?) before the covid vaccines.
Not that I'm holding my breath. I think it'll be months rather than weeks before we get to roll our sleeves up here. Amazing tunnel! It's interesting, wondering what one would do if one had two lifetimes (or days were 48 hours long).

    1. Well that should be the right timing for me than. I should be on the vulnerable list for the Covid vaccine but when who knows. Yes the tunnel is rather jaw-dropping, and it is less scary than some tunnels but I think two lives would have me visiting the Faroes.

  4. That tunnel is fantastical!

I think the whole world is holding its breath, waiting for this vaccine. In my country, things are truly out of control. In North Dakota, which is a sparsely populated state, true, posted the news that 1 in every 800 deaths in that state are due to covid. I can scarcely wrap my head around numbers like that. In my own area, the rate has tripled in just three days, but still we have people calling it a 'hoax', and screaming about their rights. Our own collective self-centeredness is killing us.

    1. I know the figures that come out of America are horrifying, the reason of course is easy to see. Some people are not prepared to believe that it will infect them, mass meetings were a no-no. Stay safe and ride it out Debby.

  5. Well, that is a very fancy tunnel for sure! I wonder about the artwork and lights planned in the center - a distraction for drivers racing around the curve there? I'm afraid I might feel a bit claustrophobic going under the sea but daily commuters would get used to it all. I sound like such a Negative Nellie - what is the matter with me? I must try to be more positive! Sorry!

    1. Well as it is a circular road, they should not go too fast. And one of the marvellous things about all these islands is that there are not too many people around. Funnily enough I have always thought the channel tunnel must be scary.
